About Me

Brook Chambers, Founder of
K9 Life Lessons

I got started in dog training through my lifelong love for animals. My initial passion was riding and working with horses, which led me to the opportunity to work on a plantation. While I did get to ride the horses, my primary role on the plantation ended up being taking care of the dogs. Being able to ride horses and watch the hunting dogs work sparked my interest in learning how to train hunting dogs. As my interest in training hunting dogs grew, I encountered obstacles that spurred me to learn on my own. While I did not specialize in training hunting dogs, this journey led me to a community of supportive trainers who saw potential in me and encouraged my growth. When I was encouraged to start my own business, I laughed it off, thinking, ‘Sure, why not? A little extra pocket change never hurt anyone.’ What started as a side gig for some extra cash quickly evolved into K9 Life Lessons, becoming my full-time passion and career.

As a balanced trainer, I utilize a combination of rewards and corrections to teach and reinforce behaviors. Before applying corrections, I like to ensure that the dog understands what is expected, ensuring fairness and clarity in training. I believe that by giving dogs both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ information, they can more easily understand expectations and thrive. This method not only helps in forming a well-behaved dog but also fosters a strong, trusting relationship between the dog and its owner.

When you choose to work with me, expect more than just a typical training session. My approach goes beyond teaching basic commands; I focus on educating owners about the integral role they play in their dog’s behavior. At the end of training, detailed go-home lessons ensure you understand not just how but why certain techniques work. This understanding is crucial for you to effectively continue the training at home. I stress the importance of the way you live with your dog, which is often more influential than commands alone. A well-behaved dog is not just about obedience; it’s about the daily interactions that enhance these commands. My goal is to help you and your dog build a mutually beneficial relationship, ensuring a well-rounded and well-behaved canine companion.

When I’m not training dogs, you can find me riding my motorcycle—an adventure I recently embarked on and thoroughly enjoy. I also have a longstanding passion for horses. Although it’s been a while, I hope to get back to riding and working with horses again. These activities not only provide a break but also keep me connected to my love for animals and the outdoors.

I live by the motto ‘Your work is your signature.’ This principle underscores my commitment to excellence in every training session and interaction. It reflects my dedication to delivering results that not only meet but exceed expectations, ensuring that every client’s experience is a testament to my commitment to quality.
